Folks --
Yahoo has apparently decided that the forums mail server is an open relay or proxy or Something Bad. As a result, they are refusing all mail from it with bounce messages such as the following:
Yahoo's crack mail admin team wrote: | This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
<some address>@yahoo.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:
host mx1.mail.yahoo.com [64.156.215.5]: 553 Mail from 128.193.0.39 not allowed - VS99-IP1 deferred - see help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-02.html (#5.7.1)

Our mail server is not an open relay and is not listed on any RBLs that I'm aware of. I've sent numerous messages to Yahoo via the above link trying to politely hand them a clue, but I have not had any luck so far.
If you are attempting to register via a Yahoo email address, this will not work as you will never get the registration verification email. Please use another, non-yahoo email address to register your account.
Thanks

I've received a few emails from folks who indicate that this problem may now be resolved. We now continue with our regularly scheduled programming.

And it appears today that the problems are back. Just to be clear, this is a Yahoo problem, not a Gentoo problem. We do our job by ensuring we do not run an open relay and conform to most commonly-accepted best practices associated with running a mail server.
While I will continue to fill out the form requesting our removal from their blacklist, we have no plans to seek other solutions to this problem. Users are encouraged to use an alternate email address (preferably one with more competent mail admins) for forum-related things.
