Add transcode to your USE variables in /etc/make.conf.

Cool! I didn't know about myth. I'm going emerge it tonight. I typically have used mplayer or xine to play dvds. This looks like it might be nicer, so I'm going to try it out and see. It also looks like it has some other cool things like mp3 playing, nes emulator. :D

Mythtv actually just uses other programs to do its dirty work. Unless you want to have an organized interface for all of it, and/or you want to interface with and record from a tv tuner, I'd suggest just using the individual programs.

Keep using xine, because that's what mythtv uses.

Sorry to wake a sleeping thread, but I figured why start a new one with the same title? ;-)

How do I start the transcoding daemon? When I try to rip a DVD I get the following error:
Quote:
Cannot connect to your Myth Transcoding Daemon. You can try hitting any number key to start it. If you still see this message, then something is really wrong.

Well, something must be really wrong, cuz there are no keys that I can hit that make it go away. (except Esc, of course :P )

I tried looking through all of the settings, but didn't find anything promising. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. You have to manually start the transcoding daemon before using MythDVD. You can do so by running "mtd -d" at a console prompt. However, you should run "mtd -n" first to test that all the settings work.

I've had to do the '-n' a couple of times to help figure out some issues. One issue I had was that it wanted to create its log file in a non-existant directory, so I had to mkdir -p that dir. The other issue I had was the ripped output directory. You have to mkdir -p and/or ln -s it also because there doesn't seem to be any setting in Myth where you can change where it will store its output files.

I'm not sure how to make "mtd" run automatically like a service...

Hope that helps.

So, where exactly is the mtd output directory? mtd -n doesn't complain, but after I rip a DVD, I can't figure out if it was successful or not, as I can't find the content. No error messages to suggest if failed, but can't find my show.

Thanks,

Looks like the myth devels need to call this when the ripping button is pressed. Pretty crappy you have to call it from a shell each time you boot or use it.
