For the last six months I've used a couple of systems (not mine) from which
the Gentoo forums can't be accessed - you just get a blank page, or if the
forums page does come up, the connection is broken after a few minutes.
Now the same breakage has arrived on my own (Gentoo) system, which has
worked for four or five years now. Is there something going on with the
forums setup, because this intermittant access is pretty discouraging.

During the last months, I often experience the same problem on different machines - sometimes, the connection fails after loading some time. This problem persists for a few minutes, then it works as expected again.
Best regards,
Jimini
Edit: as far as I can remember, I only used Firefox on Gentoo and WinXP. _________________ "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents." (H.P. Lovecraft: The Call of Cthulhu) |

Maybe this can explain your problems.
I don't really understand your post. You problem seems to happen only on certain machines. It happens to me and others on every computer, but only a couple of times a day and only for a couple of minutes each time. |

We have had some sporadic DoS attacks in the last few months that can cause the forums to become unresponsive, which tend to either take a long time for the page to load or result in a timeout. This is most likely what you are seeing.
As for blank pages this is usually caused by a page hitting the memory limit but this is not something I've seen for a while.
Are these problems reproducible? Do they occur when accessing certain pages/features? Does it always break when accessing from a certain IP address? _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |
