yeah, apparently that's why avatars have been screwed up for ages - takes a while to sync the changes, so one db gets no avatar for people for a while...

Avatars are not kept in the database, they are just files on the front end nodes.

The database problems we were having yesterday have now been fixed an the servers are in sync again.
