Im trying to install gentoo in vmware. I have tried to use briged networking but i keep getting dhcp "timout" message when i run a dhcpcd in like the 3rd step of the install.

when i use NAT and make my vm use the same ip address as my winxp system then eveything works fine untill i reboot and then i cant do anything (before i reboot i can emerge as much as i want).

Im not just new to gentoo im new to linux so if you want to help me please do a step by step instructions. (ie what files do i edit and what do i put there)

If anyone has sucessfully installed Gentoo in vmware then YOU are the people that could help me the most.

The second paragraph (NAT) sounds like you don't have the right networking driver compiled. Follow the kernel installation section of the install guide and make sure that the driver VMware requires (I don't remember off the top of my head) is compiled into the kernel (so it has a <*> to it).

Then, just mount /boot, copy your new kernel into it and there you go.
