The Problem
Without much trouble I installed on vmware the minimal x64 setup from a "genkernel all". Now, my problem was/is that I can't get X configured. I try X -configure and it "gives segmentation fault at address(nil)". Start X does start x11, but the environment has far too little resolution.
What I have done
1) emerge --update --deep world
2) emerged app-emulation/open-vm-tools
3) Edit the make.conf: VIDEO_CARDS="nv vmware" (I have an nvidia card)
4) emerged x11, twm, xterm
5) startx worked
6) X -configure gives an error I don't know how to correct

| I had to remove the vmware driver on a non-vmware system just to get X -configure to work. You could possibly look for a newer or older version of the driver module, but I think the current one is buggy to say the least. |

vmware has no 3d acceleration thus the nv driver is no go _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein
