I unmerged it and deleted all of the config files (I'm a LILO man, thank you very much), but everytime I do an 'emerge -p system', it wants to reinstall grub. How can I stop it from doing this? Is there a system file similar to the world file? Thanks.

Does removing it from /etc/make.profile/packages help?

I'm not positive that will work, but if grub is a valid USE flag, then yes. Also, see what rac posted.

That reminds me of something that has been on my mind for a while.

Considering all of these obscure USE options floating around, is there one repository of every single one of them, or is it a pick and choose scenario?

The Guide to USE flags has some nice descriptions, and there's also a list in the Developers HOWTO.

You can also see the file /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc on your gentoo system.
