I'm trying to build gnome becuase I'd prefer to use gnome2 over kde and here's the error that I get when gtk+2.05 tries to build. I have a gentoo system thats built from scratch. I tried emerge rsync and tried to build it again but I got the same error.

Eek that looks like a Portage bug.
Did you try a world upgrade before? ("emerge -pu world", then "emerge -u world" if fine)
Just to make sure that you are running the latest Portage and related software and the problem still exists.

I unmasked all the gnome2 and did a fresh gentoo install, i used that new version of gtk (i think 2.06) and it broke gimp. I also couldnt compile metacity-setup because of a bonobo error. I hope when gentoo gets rc1 up in teh portage tree it will behave nicer.

I had the same problem doing an emerge gnome on a fresh 1.2 system after doing emerge rsync.

I just merged the latest version of portage and this solved it!

Hope this helps.
