|
|
...very new to linux newbie...
I want to install the java sdk, so I started reading the gentoo java guide and it says to I have to download the tarball myself (due to licencing restrictions) into /usr/portage/distfiles. I already have a real "paid-for" CD but the install file on the CD is a binary.
Will it work if I just copy the binary into the specified directory and follow the emerge commands in the gentoo java guide? If not, is there a way around this?
Thanx for any help. |

the file that you download is also a binary.. The problem is you have to go to sun's website and agree to the license before you can download the file. So you could just put your binary into the /usr/portage/distfiles and then emerge sdk-sun . Or of course, you can just install it yourself. The good thing about the ebuild is it keeps track of where the files are installed making it easy to remove
