|
|
Much to my chagrin, I've discovered the Big Three, intel, nvidia, and ati, unanimously deciding that VGA text mode is obsolete and going to go poof in the future, and that KMS will soon be mandatory.
So I bow to the inevitable and enable KMS.
Only thing that I'd like now that VGA text mode has been taken away from me, is to enable 640x400 fullscreen so that I at least don't go blind reading the teeny characters.
How do I turn my console video mode to 640x400?
I already tried fbset and all I could get it to do was clamp things to a 80x25 window in the upper left corner of the screen.
What I would like to do is change the physical resolution.
How do I do that? |

Maybe set a bigger font ( /etc/conf.d/consolefont )? _________________ My printer has strange colors |

Already looked, and
1. Don't have any fonts big enough to achieve 80x25 @ 1024x768
2. 1024x768 is too many pixels to shove around anyway.
What I need is to actually change the physical pixel-wise x by y of the virtual console |

Didn't work, I suspected as much when I saw it was a boot parameter.
Thanks for trying though.
What I'm after is changing a vc's physical resolution at runtime, after the system is booted.
fbset is the closest I've found but for some reason it's only setting the logical screen resolution and simply clamping your screen. It doesn't change the true resolution at all.
EDIT: Partially resolved, turns out I need to upgrade my gentoo-sources.
I would still like to change my console resolution at runtime however. |
