Try using cvs instead of the ebuild.

Ok, just to clarify...has anyone got War3 working with the winex ebuild?

I'd love to be able to subscribe to get a working binary version, but honestly I don't have the $$ and don't spend enough time gaming to make it worth it, so if no one else has got the ebuild version working I'll stop bothering.

According to WineX's FAQ (http://www.transgaming.com/gamefaq.php?specialid=1) WineX prefer's that you use the /dev/cdrom device. Could this be a problem because Gentoo uses /dev/cdroms/cdrom0? Just a thought.

Perhaps this will help some get Warcraft3 up and running. After I upgraded my kernel from 2.4.18 vanilla to 2.4.19 vanilla I had to make my "user" part of the cdrom group to get it to work.
(usermod -G users,wheel,audio,cdrom username).
Odd thing was Starcraft, Homeworld and other games would run under winex without this change but Warcraft3 would always crash.I did not have to make my "user" part of the cdrom group to run Warcraft3 with the old kernel.

Using vanilla kernel 2.4.19 and winex 2.1.1 bianary tar.

Poking around a bit it appears that pam has been changing some of my security permissions (according to the nvidia-glx readme). This was leading to some odd behavior. I suspect this was causing my winex/warcraft3 problem. I needed to edit my /etc/security/console.perms file so pam would leave the permissions alone.
