PPC install issue ("default catch" after "boot:" prompt)

Hello,

I am having issues booting off the 2008 Universal CD (PPC) on my iMac DV+ (G3).

I do the usual to boot off the disc at power on (hold down C), no problem.
The issue I encounter is post "boot:".
The system begins to boot, and then it dies with a "default catch" and drops me to the "ok>" prompt.

Is this somethign to do with OpenFirmware on my system?
Is this a simple matter of boot flags?

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on PPC.
ppc stuff, so moved here.

It probably boots the 64-bit kernel since you didn't specifically select the ppc32 kernel. Or did you?

I renew this thread because I am experiencing the same problem with an iMac G3. Trying to install from Live CD 2008 I' ve got as result the Open Firmware reply. How can I select the kernel for Power PC 32?
Thanks in advance for your assistance. I would like to try Gentoo in my Mac, so if there is also any chance other than Live CD please let me know!

Hi.
Now it is OK regarding the boot.
But .... the problem is just at the end of initial activity. The result is:
No cdupdate.sh script found, skipping ...
Booting (initramfs)
init/sbin/init : no such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attmpetd to kill init!
Rebooting in 180 seconds..

And of course it reboots in OSX.
Some useful suggestions?

It's possible the optical drive of your system has trouble reading the cdr/cdrw you used. cdr's and cdrw have lower reflectivity than mass produced 'silver' cd's.

Via a fresh CD it seems to be OK now, but ..... what I should write at the "Live CD root" request?
