Some time ago my desktop icons disappeared. I had to start with a clean config to get them back. Now I have icons on my dekstop but I can't move them ( if I drag a icon it comes back to it's previous position). How can I tell e17 that I wan't my desktop icons to be positioned manually?
Code:
 $ emerge --info

Right click on any desktop icon -> View Mode -> Custom Icons

Definitely a feature you just weren't aware of. I like grid better as a default tbh.

I have done it. I can't move my icons anyway. They only get messier then ( when I select "grid icons" icons are arranged in rows/columns and when I choose "custom icons" they get as close to each other as possible).

I've the same problem. Especially if you want a taskbar/launcher thing to be on the top of the screen, this makes for a very annoying issue as the icons are half hidden.

The icons keep flipping back to their original position no matter what option you select.

Use sane CFLAGS! If for no other reason, do it for the lulz!

I used e17 quite a while ago. I had the same problem as you guys.

However, what fixed it for me was to delete the e17 configuration directory in my home and start over.
If I messed with too much configuration, I got the problem. So as long as I *behaved* everything works :P .

Don't know if it's still the case though...

Unluckily not for me. I have another user ( who doesn't use e17) I removed that users ~/.e and started e17.... and experienced exactly the same problem.

I guess that is the downside if you use an experimental version. I switched to XFCE because it kept crashing and stuff.
