glibc build issues

  • Quote

Post by Scorpion265 » Thu Feb 11, 2010 4:18 pm

Hello all,

so here is the situation. I am running a xen system that has three para-virtualized domU systems. the hypervisor builds glibc without any problems, however the virtual machines all have the same problem. Here is the error. Let me know if there is any other info I can post to help resolve this.

Code: Select all

I found as a temporary solution I can offline the domU, mount the LVM for the domU in the hypervisor, chroot to it and update glibc manually. I have kept one of them not upgraded for testing. I would prefer this to be a temporary solution :)

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I'm also having the same problem:

I'm also running gentoo under a xen hypervisor, however I don't have any control over the server, only my own virtual machine.

Any ideas?

Any ideas? I am out. I've tried building a new VM, and it has the same issues.

The real question is : why do we see a seg fault when compiling (first message excerpt) ?
Try to test the compiler with a simpler code.
Best.

everything else builds except for glibc. I have not had a problem anywhere else.

Have tried a few things now, such as remerging sandbox, that seemed to help others, but sadly not me. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Since you mentioned xen, are you sure you are not running out of memory? glibc takes a lot of ram to build. I have it fail sometimes in openvz containers if I have the mem limits too low.

I'm dedicating 1,5GB to this domU but I also thought about RAM being the problem and assigned it 4GB to test with... same result.
I just upgraded from the xen-3.4.2-r1 and xen-sources-2.6.29-r4 ebuilds to non-ebuild xen-4.0.0-rc6 and 2.6.32-pvops and I'm still having the same problem.

OK, I finally got this working. I have been using pygrub to boot kernels from the domU itself. I switched back to the shared xen-sources kernel, and I can build again. This is with a domU with 512 megs of ram and a gig of swap on the low end.

Are you saying it works by booting with a config that specifies the kernel out of the dom0 filesystem or by using a different kernel? I do not think that the location of the kernel should make a difference...

Right, not saying the location matters, so much as the kernel in use. I am using the xen specific additions to the kernel, where as before I was using a vanilla kernel with the built in VM extensions. Either that, or I have a gross misconfiguration in my domU kernels.
