Does anyone know off hand if the install disk sets up a running sshd server? I have the need to set up Gentoo on two boxes a few hundred miles away from me and can have someone on site stick the CD in and boot the machine. I figured I could even throw a quick shell script in to assign IP address info that he could run. If the install disk started an SSH server to accept incomming connections (granted there would be no password authentication going on here) it would at least allow me the flexibilty of running the install from my home instead of driving across the state to set things up.
Anybody have a better idea as far as remote installation? |

I sure hope there isn't any server running during install, since it then becomes possible to get rooted while installing. |

This particular box would be on the inside of the network, requiring a SSH to a gateway/firewall and then SSH from there to the install box. In this particular instance I wouldn't be too worried about getting rooted because the potential cracker would need to gain access to my gateway first and then know the exact internal IP address I had assigned to the box that was being installed. |

I thought about doing this (repeatedly), but as far as I know sshd is not included on the install CD. But, if you could get a netcat binary or something, you could telnet in... _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |
