well,
that is strange: i get the xdm login screen, but putting in my user name & password it just comes up again.
same thing if i put in "root" & the root password.
from another console. remember updating some xdm-configs lately.
it all does not seem to be password related, if i put in wrong passwords, xdm comes up with "incorrect".
so the prob rather seems to be, that the login screen comes up again & again?
so where would i start - really confused
thanks again!
so unmerge xdm, can bring up X with
- who needs a login-manager
anyhow ? _________________ lo-jay

Two places to look:
1. Under your user's home directory, the .xsession-errors file.
2. In /var/log/, the Xorg.0.log
In those two files you will get the most information about X's startup and its failures.
Also, I would't unmerge xdm, I would just disable xdm during boot. That way you could test without having to re-emerge xdm.
Hope this helps... _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. |
