I got a such trouble with Gnome Power Manager: there are no suspend or hibernate modes in settings menu and in shutdown dialog. In gnome power statistics there are no devices, and brightness applet is not working. But when i use pm-suspend, my laptop successfully suspends and wakes up, when i switch off laptop from socket it changes screen brightness. In lshal can_suspend=true, in gconf too.
Are there any ways to solve this problem?
Thanks!
Sorry for my bad english. |

Hello,
sort of equal problem here:
Neither as root nor as normal user (with groups wheel, plugdev and a lot more) gnome-power-manager (2.28.1) shows suspend or hibernate button. It also lacks providing the battery tab in the settings. Seems that gnome-power-manager is not aware of the system capabilities and configuration.
In general suspend and hibernate as normal user works w/o problems, e.g. these both lead to suspending:
Code: | With GNOME: dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.Hal /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement.Suspend int32: |
or
Code: | Without GNOME: Fn+F4 |
Frequency scaling works in gnome.
Have already treied to re-emerge dbus, hal, consolekit und other packages. revdep-rebuild returns a consistent system und emerge -uDN system world shows a up-to-date system.
Regards,
Stefan |

Hi,
unfortunately that 's not the problem.
Code: | emerge -pv consolekit gnome-power-manager |
Quote: |
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] sys-auth/consolekit-0.4.1-r1 USE="pam policykit -debug -doc" 389 kB [1]
[ebuild R ] gnome-extra/gnome-power-manager-2.28.1 USE="hal policykit -debug -doc -test" 0 kB [1]
Total: 2 packages (2 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 389 kB
Portage tree and overlays:
[0] /usr/portage
[1] /usr/local/portage/layman/gnome
|
As one can see, I already unmasked consolekit-0.4.1-r1 as well as devicekit and policykit as described in the bug report.
Moreover consolekit is required by the following packages:
Code: | equery d consolekit |
Quote: |
[ Searching for packages depending on consolekit... ]
gnome-base/gdm-2.20.10-r2 (consolekit? sys-auth/consolekit)
gnome-base/gnome-volume-manager-2.24.1 (consolekit? >=sys-auth/consolekit-0.2)
gnome-extra/gnome-power-manager-2.28.1 (>=sys-auth/consolekit-0.4[policykit?])
sys-apps/hal-0.5.12_rc1-r8 (consolekit? sys-auth/consolekit[policykit=])
(policykit? sys-auth/consolekit[policykit])
sys-auth/pambase-20090620.1-r1 (consolekit? >=sys-auth/consolekit-0.3[pam])
x11-apps/xinit-1.0.8-r10 (consolekit? sys-auth/consolekit)

So, the problem is still prevalent.
What I am doing wrong? Is this a bug or a problem of my use flags?
Here is my
output:

Make sure your user can execute "/usr/lib/gnome-session/helpers/gnome-settings-daemon-helper". I had a similar problem; maybe it will fix your problem. |

Permissions are 755 here, so that's not the problem, sadly. |

Seeing this:

I suspect you've got one of the possible SNAFUs
of mixing stable and unstable.
Interface of DeviceKit-power was in a flux till
Gnome 2.28 release (still is much more unstable to feel really safe).
You're probably be facing shortly fun of udev/e2fsprogs-libs/util-linux/hal
(plus a few things I probably missed, as I only mention things I needed to upgrade
- no, I don't use Gnome, for me that upgrade was caused by another reason) upgrade
to make it possible for a recent DeviceKit-power to be emerged and function correctly.
Read the NEWS in power manager tarball. |

Hi,
if I would remove my packages.keywords (a lot of packages in there) und packages.unmask (just a few) I wouldn't be able to install/update anything. I only added the packages+versions that where necessary to make a "emerge -uDN system world" work resp. to make stuff at least compiling.
Nothing more in there than things needed to be able to compile system+world. Seems that the portage is a bit messed up.
But I think you are right with your assumption.
I am afraid, that at the end I have to go back to M$ world - maybe M$ Windows 7 works better with my Thinkpad. Please not...

1. please, don't whine
2. on x86, the whole set I mentioned has just been stabled
(utils set, not DeviceKit-power) |

@struhs
about one week ago i had the same Problem
first i cleaned up my packages.keywords
Second Guide to upgrade to libxcb 1.4 https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-792662.html
than i started several times
Code: | emerge --keep-going --update --deep --newuse -av system |
i had to emerge some of the packages by name and ... Code: | emerge --keep-going --update --deep --newuse -av system |
followed by some
Code: | emerge --resume --skipfirst... |
then the same for
Code: | emerge --keep-going --update --deep --newuse -av world | ...
the result was a 2 Days work and a nearly untouched packages.keywords _________________ Never give up
