Hi, I got the following error after 2 tries while on stage1. I'm using the 16mb gentoo-ix86-1.2.iso.

Here's my setup:
Dell Laptop Pentium 3 850mhz
20G Hd, 256 megs. mem.
Partition scheme:
/ - 400m.
/boot - 120m
/usr - 13500m
/home - 4G
/var - 300m
/tmp - 250m
<swap> - 500m
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
make.conf (Does my system support this?)
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=i686 -03 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-march=i686 -03 -pipe"

Your CFLAGS look fine, but your /var partition looks too small. Portage uses /var/tmp/ to build software, and it can get huge. Is there a chance /var could be running out of space? Try temporarily symlinking /var to /usr/var and see if your problems go away.
