i've got gnome 2.4 running and I wanted to try gdesklets. It emerges just fine. I also emerged a desklet so it could display something.
As soon as I start gdesklets it welcomes me with a screen telling me that it lookes like I'm running gdesklets for the first time etc etc. When I click ok (the only option) nothing happens.
I'm wondering if that is normal or that the error I get when running it from a console (Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0". ) has something to do with it.
It does not give me my prompy back, so perhaps it is still functioning. But I dont see the result.
Anyone with some more experience with gdesklets? |

You have to actually find a .display file to use.
gdesklets itself is just a daemon that runs displays and sensors.
You can go to the gdesklets site and download them.

I've got some of the .displays.
As the welcome screen of gdesklets tells me, I could run them fromout my filemanager. But kinda odd they don't have execute permissions....
When I browse to /usr/share/gdesklets/Displays/ I see my displays. Inside there are xml files, which I can't run, can you? |

Never managed to run them from nautilus, myself but if you run them through the command line,
Code: | gdesklets /path/to/display/***.display |
they should pop up on your screen, and you can move them around and configure them. |

Ditto on being unable to open them from a GUI.
One thing to note is that the displays open *behind* everything else, so close/minimize your windows before you assume they're not working.
