I had been using 2.4.19-gentoo-r7 and thought I'd try out 2.4.19 vanilla when it came out.

I use xset to turn on dpms in X, so when I walk away my monitor turns itself off. in the 2.4.19 vanilla kernel, when I came back and moved the mouse and hit a key, the monitor didn't come back on.

I had to log in over the network and killall -9 X (killall X didn't work).

So, i decided to try out xscreensaver. the screensaver came up fine, so I walked away. when I came back later, the screensaver was frozen. again, I had to ssh in and killall -9 X.

I use DRI, with an ATI rage 128. I recompiled the r128.o module from the gentoo xfree86 package for the 2.4.19 vanilla kernel, and GL runs fast. I'm thinking maybe there is a strange interaction between gentoo's xfree86 and the vanilla kernel.

the system is a 750mhz athlon (tbird) on an Asus A7V motherboard.

eventually i just rebooted into the gentoo-r7 kernel. I used the same configuration in both kernels. I use APM, but not ACPI.
