After getting most of gentoo installed is gives a long warning message about a /devhs or something filesystem not being compiled into my kernel. When i do a make menuconfig i dont see that option anywhere on the list. when i do a make xconfig on a different machine i can see the option but it is greyed out. someone help me please???

its DEVFS... and its under FILE SYSTEMS...try cd'ing to /usr/src/linux as root or su and running make menuconfig instead of xconfig |

...and make sure you turn on "Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers" under "Code maturity level options". _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

You need to go to:
Code maturity level options
and check on:
Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers
for devfs to appear. |

One mayor piece of advice:
Print this:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/build.html
read the part about kernel setup, and you'll know all you need to know.!
