i've just finished setting up gentoo on my ultra5 (333mhz, 256mb ram) for use as a desktop system. so far so good, i'm posting this from it using dillo managed by openbox3. but one little thing is bugging me... the mouse. i wish it felt more like the ps2 mice on my x86 gentoo systems.
then i noticed this from dmesg:
Code: | sunmouse: Successfully adjusted to 1200 baud. |
this seems low, can i adjust this? i have a non-usb type6 keyboard/mouse. |

I am using a optical USB wheel mouse on my Ultra5... maybe that would be something you prefer over these hand-crippling Sun mice |

that does sound nice. does your ultra5 have usb ports on board, or did you add a card? mine has no usb ports right now. |

Yeah, I put a 2 port Kroutech KW 580C USB1 card in it. It works fine with my 2.4.23-pre5 Kernel. I am just waiting for a 5 port USB2 card to replace this one
Any OHCI/UHCI compatible card should work. |

I'm sorry I can give you a link, but google around. You actually make a slight hardware mod to the mouse, and no configuration on the sparcstation is necessary, you'll instead get the message:
"...successfully adjusted baud to 4800" instead of 1200.
Even though I once found out how to do this, I didn't because I don't really have a problem with the mouse @ 1200baud, works for me.
OK, just did a google for you: here's the link:

The hardware mod works quite well, the mouse is much much more responsive @ 4800 baud. Thought I didn't mind using it @ 1200 either, after modding a mouse for a friend, I can't go back to normal. _________________ -Paul |
