Have you set
Code:
PKGDIR=/usr/packages/
in /etc/make.conf?

Thanks for the binary Nylle,
Seeing as how I relly don't want to start downgrading to GCC-3.2.3 and thats what it takes to fix copy/cut bug... You're binaries are a real life saver.

You're path is wrong, and so is the path in my README, it should be /usr/portage/packages/All/. I'll change it tomorrow.

Actually, to really play nice with portage, you should put it in /usr/portage/packages/app-office/ and just try to emerge it with emerge -K openoffice-ximian.

My idea would be to remove net-libs/linc and then rebuild openoffice. My guess is that the liblinc dependency only occurred because that library happened to still be around after the big gnome upgrade.

The plan seems to have worked - after
Code:
emerge -C net-libs/linc
emerge --deep /usr/local/portage/app-office/openoffice-ximian/openoffice-ximian-1.1.0-r2.ebuild
I now have an openoffice-ximian that works without liblinc.so 8)

The ebuild is from an earlier Posting in this thread; my recommendation ist not to install it under /usr/portage (where it will be wiped by the next emerge sync), but under /usr/local/portage, which will not be wiped and can be activated with
Code:
PORTDIR_OVERLAY=/usr/local/portage
in /etc/make.conf

You should put the tbz2 file in : /usr/portage/packages/app-office
or <wherever your PKGDIR is>/app-office.

Ok, now I've uploaded a -r2 version of the 0.9.6 build as well and updated the README with some clearer installation instructions.

So, you can still get it at
http://www.update.uu.se/~adde/oo/

Both builds will run on a Pentium Pro or better, and they don't suffer from the copy & paste problem.

Thanks suka for the ebuild... after patching findutils work like a charm, even with pentium4 optimization.

In the topic of Copy/Paste in gcalc (haven't read all posts on the list, so maybe you already know this), but seen that the Copy/Paste operation is not performed if I click the cell, then perform the operation. But if I click the cell, select its contents and perform the Copy/Paste operation, it completes without problem

openoffice-ximian-1.1.0-r1 went fine.
Any thoughts?

Argh, i was just about to post my problem, when i saw this post. I've exactly the same compilation error, wichever CFLAGS I tried (I changed a bit my CFLAGS between r1 and r2).

It's "good" to see I'm not alone :)

BTW, I use GCC 3.3.1-r5, upgraded yesterday from 3.3.1-r4 which gave me the same error.

Probably you perform an emerge -u and the patched findutils was replaced. I got a similar error on all openoffice ebuilds until make a patched findutils ebuild, after that everything works fine.

Can anyone check if you guys have formula editor working properly? I mean, I'm getting symbol problems, instead of =,>,<,- and all those symbols I;m getting huge empty spaces :(

antibiotic: Yep, they're definitely wrong here. Letters and numbers work but most other characters (such as the ones you mentioned) create... um... some weird thingies that remind me of Wingdings (I can see stuff like a Mona Lisa and some orbits) and aren't spaced apart at all (they just stack on top of each other). Is this a known bug?

I'm using a german version of openoffice-ximian-r2 (by the way it compiled really nice) and experienced the same problem.
I solved it by copying /opt/OpenOffice.org/share/fonts/truetype/opens___.ttf to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype and running "/etc/init.d/xfs restart".
Simply inserting:
FontPath "/opt/OpenOffice.org/share/fonts/truetype/"
into the Section "Files" of your XF86Config and restarting xfs should also do the trick.

I don't think it's in the portage tree any more. You can apply this patch to your findutils (4.1.20 was the version I applied to):

Code:
diff -ruN findutils-4.1.20.orig/xargs/xargs.c findutils-4.1.20/xargs/xargs.c
--- findutils-4.1.20.orig/xargs/xargs.c 2003-10-17 13:14:07.000000000 -0400
+++ findutils-4.1.20/xargs/xargs.c      2003-10-17 13:21:41.000000000 -0400

Save that in a file in /usr/portage/sys-apps/findutils/files as findutils-environment.patch, then edit the findutils-4.1.20 ebuild (I just copied mine to findutils-4.1.20-r1) and add a line

Code:
    epatch ${FILESDIR}/findutils-environment.patch

to the ebuild in the src_unpack function, after the sed for Makefile.in.

Now, rebuild the digest by running

Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/sys-apps/findutils/findutils-4.1.20-r1.ebuild digest

and finally, emerge -u findutils.

That fixed the xargs problem for me. I also had another build error fixed by adding nptl to my USE in make.conf.

Has anybody noticed that bullets don't work in this version? I hope it's not just me.. but I turn on bullets using the button on the toolbar or the option in the menu, and all I get is grey boxes. PDF export also shows no bullets.

I know Ximian has their own special font for bullets, and there's also a weird mapping from the internal symbol characters to the displayed symbol characters to make certain characters look better on Linux.. so this is probably the source of the problem.

I'd really like to see this go into the main tree as well, and I'm willing to put in time to migrate to the Ximian build system (I suspect this and the copy/paste problems might be a result of the non-standard build). I have a bit of experience packaging Ximian OO.o in RedHat for stuff I do at work, so if anybody's interested let me know at sirjoltalot@yahoo.com.

To suka:
Because a lot of people (all?) seem to have problems with missing bulletts and wrong symbols in OOmath, perhaps it would be possible to add some lines to the ebuild like:
Code:
        cd ${S}/extra/source/truetype/symbol
        insinto /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype
        # or wherever best installed
        doins *.ttf

somewhere under src_install() and under pkg_postinst() something like:
Code:
        if [ "${ROOT}" = "/" ] &&  [ -x /usr/bin/fc-cache ]
        then
                echo
                einfo "Creating font cache..."
                HOME="/root" /usr/bin/fc-cache -f
        fi
(borrowed from the ttf-bitstream-vera ebuild)?

I don't know if this will help as I haven't got a log to check through myself, but if the bmp file is produced just before it's looked for then this might be worth a go....

I found (while building gramps fwiw) that make would trip over itself when sorting out the language files and do some operations out of order. This meant that it would try and work on a file before it had finished being created. I fixed it my changing MAKEOPTS from "-j2" to "-j1".
