mael $ startkde

I know theres kdm (and it does work), but I'm not crazy about it.
I originally wanted to use startx, but everytime I start it, it gives me xterm (even after i change XSESSION=KDE /etc/rc.conf)
If you have any suggestions on how I can get startkde to work, or change startx to get into kde, I'd appreciate it. _________________ Windows [n.]

You should type "startx", not "startkde" from console.
On a second note, make sure you have a file named "KDE" in your /etc/X11/Sessions. Its content should be (make sure it's executable,
"chmod a+x /etc/X11/Sessions/KDE"):
#!/bin/sh
/usr/kde/3/bin/startkde |

Basically KDE is complaining because there is no Xwindows to start up in.
Here's what I've done:
if you don't have the file .xinitrc in your home directory, make it, and add the line:
Then just run startx to get going. Basically this starts your Xwindows, then it runs startkde for ya.
Easy as pie!

Got it :)
The problem was:
XSESSION=KDE in /etc/ rc.conf
I changed it to what was in /etc/rc.conf (in my case XSESSION=kde-3.0.2).
Thought I'd post my results to anyone who has this problem in the future. Thanks for the help Twoslick and Toan Nguyen _________________ Windows [n.]
