I know there's been a lot of posts about openoffice lately, but I didn't find anything exactly related to this during my search. I get this error when I try to emerge it:
Code:
01:45:30 (61.96 KB/s) - `/usr/portage/distfiles/gpc231.tar.Z' saved [27917/27917]

>>> md5 ;-) OOo_1.0.0_source.tar.bz2
>>> md5 ;-) gpc231.tar.Z
>>> md5 ;-) openoffice-1.0.0b-registry.tbz2
 *
 * This build needs gcc-3.0.4 or later, but due to profile
 * settings, it cannot DEPEND on it, so please merge it
 * manually:
 *
 *  #  ebuild /usr/portage/sys-devel/gcc/gcc-<version>.ebuild merge
 *
 * Where <version> is the version and revision of the ebuild you
 * want to use.  Have a look in /usr/portage/sys-devel/gcc/ for
 * available ebuilds.
 *
 * As of writing, gcc-3.0.4 seemed to create the most stable
 * builds (more so than gcc-3.1).
 *

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function pkg_setup, Line 272, Exitcode 0
!!! (no error message)

!!! emerge aborting on  /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-1.0.0-r2.ebuild.

I'm basically just looking for clarification of what this means. How can it need something, but not depend on it? Wouldn't those two attributes be mutually inclusive? I'm running GCC 2.95.3, so is there any way to build this, or will I have to wait until I upgrade to GCC 3.1? Thanks.

the problem is your profile. If you updated your profile to use the gentoo-1.3 versions (which are beta and running on gcc3) then it would find the dependencies and install the correct version of gcc. The problem is you are using 1.2 or lower and your profile has gcc3 blocked, therfore it won't upgrade to it (which would mess everything up if you did). The only way to install openoffice from source is to upgrade to gentoo -1.3. For now I'd recomend installing openoffice bin.

Hello everyone,

I tried to emerge openoffice and received the same message our friend received. But unfortunately I emerged cgg 3.04.

Trying to install openoffice after the new gcc was merged failed, and I figured I had done something I shouldn't. So I just unmerged the new gcc and now it seems that everything went bad and I don't have a compiler anymore.

Any ideas about what I should do?

Thanks in advance
