very strange.
When I do a remove from CL; f.e. a file of 100Mb, it's gone just like that.
When I delete the same thing from within Endeavour, it takes about, well I didn't time it because else I would fall asleep.
I have XFS, maybe that's related with it?
My hdparm output (when just booted) is something like 190 and 35 Mb/s
when the system is running for a while the 190 drops to 170 or so.
35 stays about the same.
Furthermore, I find that starting some program's cause a lot of noise from the hd.
Or should I do maintainance on the hd with the xfsprogs (that's what the install guide said, to emerge them), however I didn't use them (till now maybe).
It seems/feels my system is 'slowing' down. _________________ haree |

I don't know if this will solve your problem as I haven't read it in a while, but there's a lot of information on hard drive performance in this thread. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

The problem is: endeavour moves all files to the trash bin (for recovery in case of mistake). To make files deletion fast, just disable that option (from the menu somewhere in endeavour) to erase files immediately. |
