|
|
Here's my question. I started from the 1.3b stage2 tarball, and tweaked my make.conf for the long compile ahead. Now I also did an export CONFIG_PROTECT="" so that I wouldn't have to manually update any files...
Now...
One of the things included in the emerge was "make" ... duh, but make "updates" the /etc/make.conf file by basically replacing it with a standard, non-optimized at all file. My question is, when does that file replacement take place? Will all items in emerge system AFTER make be compiled with that cookie-cutter clean make.conf? Do I have to recompile my system now because only a portion of the files were actually compiled with the flags that I wanted? |

Unless something has changed (or I am in an alternate universe) doing the compile on the stage2 does not replace or change the make.conf. Never ever has for me. I've never seen anything alter the make.conf.
Hope this answers the question!

That looks like what happened. ALthough I didn't use the bootstrap script, it did update/install GCC3.
Looks like I'll have to redo the emerge system just to make sure that everything is using the settings I want. |

As that thread says, if you kill a bootstrap with a ^C, it can leave your make.conf renamed to make.conf.build...

Too bizarre! I too have only ever used the stage1 and build the rest from ebuilds. Good information to have though!

Probably a good idea to back up the make.conf to someplace safe Actually someone had a Tips and Tricks hint to back up the whole etc hierarchy to someplace safe. |
