In contemplating my next Gentoo system, I've come across some interesting stuff.
Case Outlet has a link for SBC (Single Board Computer) stuff. I'm specifically interested in the ROCKY-772EV (Though I may look into other options for a music 'jukebox' or TiVo-like device). I'm assuming this would connect to a backplane (also linked from Case Outlet).
Here are my questions: Is anyone familiar with backplane based systems? Will the Rocky + Backplane be enough to run a system? Is any special software generally required? I understand a case, power supply and drives are still required. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

For my use? Probably none. I just think it would be 'cool' to have. Also would depend on what speed chip these cards used. Have 1 box with a firewall, main system, audio server, TiVo-like-server, web server... the list is endless. All in one convenient box.
This is mainly an advantage for server use though. I'm sure someone else can give you other 'real' use advantage. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
