|
|
The "offensive" USE flag has disappeared in xscreensaver-5.04, and the nsfw patch seems a lot less extensive (though always applied).
What's the reason for this, or should I be concerned? (I run gentoo machines in a school lab environment where use of xscreensaver is encouraged, and it's important not to have any, um, surprises.) |

I am not sure about xscreensaver, but with sudo you get some nasty comments if you type thep wrong password.

Oh, I didn' t want want to know that. |
These are some excerpts, and some people might call this offensive, for me personally it is more amusing. So my guess for xsceensaver, is that certain comments are not filtered out, but you have not to expect something porn like... (That's what this question is about.)
cheers

One of the things the offensive USE flag adds is the webcollage screen saver. Since this screen saver grabs images off the net it can be considered quite offensive to pretty much anyone. There are bad things on the net.
There might be other things it adds to xscreensaver as well. |

| Yes, the other thing was potentially offensive configurations of glsnake. Original discussion requesting the offensive use flag at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46256 . My question is, why was the flag removed in the latest release, and is there anything I should do to compensate? |

I concur, especially since with gnome-screensaver there is no way to turn-off the webcollage (sort of deleting the .desktop file and executable-- which I did). I'm going to try to re-open the bug mentioned above.

The devs seem to be very resistant to this-- I'm not sure why. Do they have children I wonder?
