Hi all,
You can now get some test GRP[1] CDs available at http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/experimental/sparc/livecd/sparc64/.
The ones you are interested in are gentoo-sparc64-1.4_rc4-08Sep2003-cd1.iso and gentoo-sparc64-1.4_rc4-08Sep2003-cd2.iso .
These are based on a snapshot of portage from August 15.
There are no changes to the LiveCD itself (other than the addition of GRP and stages).
You can find documentation on using GRP at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml#doc_chap25 until we get our own.
GRP lets you do a binary based Gentoo installation. It is indented to let a user get a usable desktop in fairly short order. Some included applications are XFree86, KDE, Gnome, Mozilla, Evolution and Sylpheed.
Please test and provide feeback

Hey,
I think there is a small bug in the 2nd CD of the latest sparc64 ISO. Packages on these ISO are in /packages, while they should be in /packages/All. Otherwise emerge -k wont find them, because its looking in the non-existing All Directory. Copying them from the CD to some /mnt/packages/All directory works fine.
Otherwise CD1 and CD2 worked fine for me! Great work! |
