Hi there,
I'm trying gentoo on my laptop (pentium-mmx 233MHz, 96MB RAM).
Kernel:gentoo-sources 2.6.25-gentoo-r6
Profile: 2008.0 server
no X-server
The last thing I tried was to get initng running, following these tutorials (german or english):
http://de.gentoo-wiki.com/InitNG
http://www.bastisboard.de/showthread.php?tid=12124
http://www.initng.org/wiki/Install_Gentoo
Everything went fine until reboot: when starting initng the failure message
Code: | "Failed to load runlevel (runlevel/default)" |
appears and I am invited to enter my root password.
Unfortunatelly I'm not that good in linux to solve this problem on my own. All I can say is that there exists a file /etc/initng/runlevel/default.runlevel.
Code: | cat /etc/initng/runlevel/default.runlevel |
returns:
Code: | daemon/metalog
runlevel/system
net/eth0
service/local
daemon/gpm |
I have searched the internet and this forum but wasn't able to find an answer. Is there someone who knows how to get initng running anyway? I would be very pleased.
Initng is not really necessary for my system, but I'd like to see if it will incerease boot-up time on my little laptop. |

I've found an article in the net:
http://osdir.com/ml/init.initng.tickets/2007-05/msg00008.html
Same problem as mine on a powerpc with debian. The responder suggests to downgrade.
I will try the next time and write a report here.
Looks like it's not a gentoo issue. So maybe it was the wrong forum to post this thread. |
