|

So it appears that the LiveCD 2008 no longer fits on a normal CD-R (from 2006) which were typically >702MB in capacity. The AMD64 LiveCD is 708MB in size and will not fit on our CD-R's. So now we have to go buy new blank discs just to get a live cd. yay Has anyone else been seeing a problem with this and is there a way we can reduce it to just fit on a normal 700MB disc?

if it's an official image I'd be inclined to open a bug and see what happens....
if not, or if you just want it to work, I'd be amazed if you couldn't overburn 708MB onto a 700MB disc... |

| You can burn that image to a DVD media. |

| I burned it yesterday ("wodim dev=/dev/sr0 -vv -overburn livecd-amd64-installer-2008.0.iso"). After 702Mb it gives the expected error message. However, I tried to boot the live CD anyway and it worked. I didn't test a lot of the CD's functionality since I don't want to actually install Gentoo, but everything I tried did work flawlessly. |

If x86 can be burned to a normal CD, why is it ok for AMD64 to not be burned to a regular cd? That is a bug, not a "burn to dvd" solution. _________________ Mindwarp.net |

Asking for 700MB is already a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
Just kick the installer out, then there's enough room for things that are actually important. |

That's what we have the minimal CD for. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

You can over-burn it using K3B / cdrecord. Worked for me.

Check the mirrors again; there's a fixed 2008.0-r1 CD now available for download; it will fit on standard 700MB CDs. See bug 231024. _________________ <UzzaDead> What is CONFIG_USB_MON?
