| A link to the GLEP's page ( http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/glep/ ) or directly to the proposal would have made the council summary better. Even better would of been the inclusion of their abstracts directly into the newsletters so I wouldn't need to look them up. |

What exactly does that mean? Does that mean it's now considered safe to use an LDFLAG and they're deciding to include it by default or it will be considered safe only once it gets decided (and until then it will still void any bug reports containing it)?

We already link to the relevant council meeting minutes in which you can find more detailed notes on what's going on. There's no point in further duplicating the existing resources and text. There's simply not time to fill up the GMN summary with the text of the various GLEPs themselves. |
In the context of the newsletter, information is neither being duplicated nor does it already existing. Information concerning the current status of the GLEP is provided by both the summary and the log of the council meeting itself, I agree. However, neither source explains what the GLEP is proposing. That would be achieved by the link to the GLEP index, the GLEP's project page, or by including the abstract of the GLEP into the newsletter. As the purpose of the newsletter is to inform and enable people to investigate further if they are interested, I think this is an omission.
Hopefully, this better articulates what it is I was looking for. |

It already is considered safe (although there are still some devs who disagree), and bugs concerning this flag are valid. The discussion is about if we should enable it by default.

Damn, I wish I knew that when I emerged -e world last month 
I thought that ldflags were still all unsafe and taboo...
Anything else I missed? 
Edit: The wiki says that "-Wl,-O1" is safe. Is that true?

Absolutely.
Personally, I have LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed" in make.conf, and I know quite a few others have too.

We're all volunteers, which means that at certain times we have more time to devote to Gentoo, and at other times life prevents us from dedicating time to this project. And devs come and devs go. The total number of active developers is actually quite stable.

I'm happy to hear Gentoo has a good number of active developers, when i saw the list i began to worry because i really like Gentoo. I did miss the disclaimer nightmorph pointed out. |

| I thought the PowerTOP stuff was really cool. I went over to their website, and noticed they had some patches to help make some popular programs more energy efficient. Is there any thought of some sort of PowerTOP use flag that would allow you to emerge programs with some of these patches applied? |
