|
|
Hi everyone,
I faced the some issues during my first gentoo-1.2 install, maybe someone out there have similar experience or thoughts they can share. Thanks in advance.
1. I use an orinoco usb client for my internet access. The usb client, which works fine in windoze and redhat-7.2, does not seems be getting power thru' the usb cable after booting from the gentoo bootdisk. I tried loading most, if not all, the "usb" modules under /lib/modules - no luck. I also tried methods, suggested in the install guide and on this forum, to load a pcmcia-based wirelss card - again, failed miserably. Have anyone gotten this beast to work (during/after install)?
2. It was suggested on the forum that encryption (wep) on the wireless network be turned off for a straight-forward gentoo install. I don't think this is safe. Can one specify/use the encryption key for wep during install with minimal effort? |

Just the install isn't too mission critical (as far as WEP goes). You'll just be donwloading stuff for the most part. Once you get your install up, you could setup WEP |

New development in my quest to get the orinoco wireless usb client to work. The device was now acknowledged when I plug it in. Msg on the screen says
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 3
usb.c: USB device (vend/prod 0x47e/0x300) is not claimed by any active driver
Now the qn: how can I get a driver to "claim" my usb device???
Btw, anyone got any suggestions what is the better modules to use for the orinoco. I was able to modprobe "orinoco" - but i noticed there exist also modules "wvlan", "wavelan_cs", "aironet", etc. |
