Hey, im interseted in putting gentoo on an old computer, it is 200 Mhz, 64 meg ram, two hard drives - first one is 1 gig which i plab to install it on, and the second one is 4.5 gig |

Well, with 64mb ram you will need about 200meg of swapspace to compile X for example, and emerging a typical system with desktop will take the machine a few days to compile - so if it's not urgent, go for it. you should install a stage3 version and not update the system immediately, try to emerge all wanted apps first so that you can start working

I put gentoo 1.2 on a pentium 200 with 64mb RAM and ~3gb of disk. I use it for, well nothing now. But I plan to make it a file server when I start moving files off my desktop. Basically it is a server and I don't have X or anything like that. Works like a champ. Took 2 days to install. :p |
