Make yer own avatars, it's easy and avoids dupes. |
You play Texas Hold'em on Pokerstars?
I think that was your avatar I saw and I cleaned you out a few times

There is currently no real simple solution to enforcing unique avatars. This means that even if we decided to enforce this there would be no simple electroic method of verifying that no two people had avatars that were visually the same. Thus, it would have to be done by the moderators, and it would probably be a huge pain to implement now since there are questions about who gets to use what avatar.
The only time I ever had issues with this was when two or more of the 3,832 people using the Agent Smith avatar would post to the same thread. However, the irony involved in so many people actually identifying with Agent Smith made any difficulties I had in understanding the thread worthwhile.
I highly recommend that people use a custom avatar and be respectful of those who have already chosen an avatar. I had to change my avatar a while back. I still think the anime of Sephiroth was awesome, but it was in the database and people were choosing it. I had already posted to a few threads where I was confused about what I was saying before I realized that I hadn't said what I thought I did. It didn't matter that I was the first forums user to adopt that avatar, it was still confusing and I still don't think there's a simple solution.
Of course, you could simply not have an avatar. This has worked for klieber for a very long time. Also, I don't think kanuslupus ever had an avatar before becomming pjp. In fact, the first avatar he had was after I changed my avatar to cliche kitty. He chose Domo Kun just to spite me. Of course, he later realized how unbelievably cool I was, so he decided not to mess with me. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

If everybody stops posting dups, we will be able to handle it

And mine
But then again for anyone who has seen Matrix Reloaded, the number of Agent Smith's seems to be pretty much correct.

I could be missing something here, but it seems very strange to me that in a forum profile, you can enter all sorts of information such as ICQ Number, MSN Messenger, Website, Location, Occupation, Interests, etc, but there is nowhere to enter your real name (as opposed to username).
I'd like to have my real name displayed above my avatar at the top of my posts, rather than my username. Is that possible? |

| Back the original topic, perhaps it would be good if the avatar selection page showed a count below each avatar of how many people are already using it? That might encourage new users to choose one that is not already in heavy use. |

Who said you can't? | It is possible. If you want this done, please PM me or another admin.
As for the user counts on avatars, I agree that it's a good idea. However, (as with many things) this is something that will only happen when the people at phpBB add it to the main branch of the code. It would make for a great feature though. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

People with the same avatars should have always 0 count of posts and stick to novice rank as a punishment _________________ "Lisp is a programmable programming language." - John Foderaro, CACM, September 1991
