|
|
This forums thread is for discussion of the www.gentoo.org posting, "2008.0 beta still in progress." Post your comments and suggestions here.
| Quote: | The 2008.0 beta is roughly a month behind the original tentative schedule. A number of factors contributed to this, including the migration to new release processes, the usual delays that affect most open-source projects, and the death of a close relative of our developers Chris Gianelloni and Chrissy Fullam.
Work on the first beta is still underway, and we expect to release it soon. |

Excuse me, but I don't understand your question. Could you rephrase it please. _________________ Christian Faulhammer, Gentoo Lisp project, GNU Emacs wrangler

I really wonder, where you got that from as there is no official 2008 release yet, the latest is 2007.0. Anyway, expect at least one more month for the final release. _________________ Christian Faulhammer, Gentoo Lisp project, GNU Emacs wrangler

The only thing what it is needed for is:
- PR (telling news site Gentoo is still alive)
- new installations with newer packages and without expat breakage.
For existing users changes are minimal. _________________ Christian Faulhammer, Gentoo Lisp project, GNU Emacs wrangler

I have sata odd, and I've had quite trouble installing gentoo.. (no rootfs or something like that)
With 2008.0, I hope not to confront with those problems. |

New Hardware?
There's plenty of chipsets and other hardware that has come out and isn't supported by gentoo's CDs. It's just pathetic when a distro has to tell its users to go find somebody elses LiveCD to install from. |

That's filed under new installations, if you grant me the picture. But you are right....new hardware on new installations. _________________ Christian Faulhammer, Gentoo Lisp project, GNU Emacs wrangler

If no Reiser4, then for sure ext4!
"what I do download Release gentoo 2008 ? (no beta)"
The guy named electro means "where to download the non-beta version of gentoo 2008 from". Answer is, it's not out yet. Neither is the beta out. |

ext4 is under heavy development, too.
I don't see why anyone should discriminate between ext4 and Reiser4. I'm running Reiser4 here on all my systems and haven't found any corruption or problems, even with gzip1 compression. _________________ Router(PE1750,4GB RAM,3x36GB HDDs,2xIntel Pro/1000+GT Quad Port) | MyDT(PhmIIx3 720@3.3GHz,8GB RAM,500GB+1.5TB+2TB HDDs,GFGTS250,LG BD-RE,Win7)
