Well connections don't map one-to-one onto people. A single client can open a ridiculous number of connections.

Huh. Until I got my post merged here, I had no idea this was even an issue. I vaguely remember seeing the error, like, once months ago. While my firefox settings aren't extreme, they are larger than the defaults, and I often have multiple forum tabs open. I wonder why I never seem to trigger it.

correct, issue is that every client which opens up to many connections in parallel to f.g.o will face this issue
It is just more probable with firefox as a lot of users have the Fasterfox plugin installed and use (very) aggressive settings (which violate RFCs but thats annother story).

Strangely enough, I only ever get it when using Konqueror. Firefox and Opera seem to work fine.

yesterday was horrible. Everytime I opened the forum or clicked on a link, I got that fucking error. And I only had ONE window with ONE tab open.

There are days when I can have a handfull of tabs open and everything is fine and days where it is plainly impossible to read the forums.

Can this madness please stop?

Ever notice that it's the worst when you really need to find some information in the forums....

Must be random luck.

I was just making sure.. I only started receiving the message recently.

I remember reading this thread a little over a year ago and checked then to make sure my about:config was set to something sane, and it was.

Now, same profile, same /home just recently upgraded plugins and firefox, I just started getting this message. I checked about:config again, and sure enough, something had changed it to 22.

Does anybody know of any extensions that change this, other than faster fox? I don't use any speed-browsing extensions. :P

I understand this was brought in to prevent search-engine bots taking down the forums, and DoS attacks in general.

On another forum I've seen... when it gets too busy it prevents guest browsing, saying something along the lines of "Priority is being given to our registered users" and a login box. Login, and you can freely browse and post unaffected.

I think that would be a great idea, as it's highly unlikely that bots and DoS zombies would have a registered username.

at the moment I need more than 10 tries to load any page or post something.

That is insane. I window with two tabs. So no 'connection spamming'.

I got that error when using Firefox-3 frequently, it's gone now that I switched back to Firefox 2. Not sure if it was a coincidence.

Merged last two posts.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5 on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and I've tried Mozilla Firefox 3 RC1 on Windows XP - both work fine.

I also get this problem only with konqueror. Is there a setting somewhere that would make it behave nicer?

I recently move from GNOME to KDE and I get this problem with Konqueror.

I use a quite simple workaround : install a local proxy server (tinyproxy is good for this) then configure Konqueror to connect to this proxy. Default settings are OK (but change the server IP to 127.0.0.1).

Is it possible that Firefox 3 default is 15 connections? I didn't install fasterfox and I don't remember changing network.http.max-connections-per-server, but mine on firefox3 is set to 15. Maybe the forum should be changed to allow 15 instead of 10 so most users don't have to modify firefox to get the forums to work.

I think many users will just think is't the forum fault and stop to investigate, so i think changing the forum's default limit is a good ideea.
