emerge nethack doesn't work

Hi everybody,

I'm new to gentoo, just installed it on my laptop this week-end, and it was a very satisfying experience for me

. However, one of my favorite "apps" :wink:

doesn't work, nethack! I know I could compile it (from the nethack.org sources), but I would like to have a "clean" installation with everything done with emerge.

Unfortunately, I don't have the exact error message (I'm at work right now), but when I type "emerge nethack" I get an error when compiling window.c (or windows.c?). Before that I have 5-6 warnings. If I remember correctly, there's not even a more specific error message than "compilation aborted". Why is this? Any help will be appreciated!

Ok, seems I got it to emerge on my system. I added "-X -gnome -kde" to my /etc/make.conf . For me it's OK because I always play nethack without tiles or other graphical interface.

However I'm still curious as to why it didn't work?
