Is there anything important in /var/log that would make it a bad idea to nuke it? I want to play with some new logging options and I want to clear out /var/log so I can see exactly how they are working, but I wanted to check and make sure that I'm not going to accidentally delete something important. _________________ “Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

While not necessarily critical, I suggest keeping the logs related to package management, such as emerge.log and the contents of portage/. |

thanks that's just what I wanted to know. Is a complete and intact emerge.log needed for genlop? _________________ “Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

It is not essential, but it would provide more complete data even if it is spread across multiple files. |
