Mornin'

I've been running from ~sparc on my Ultra5 for some time now and it's doing quite well. A couple days ago, some gnome stuff got updated and now the emerge fails on gst-plugins. The emerge for ~x86 does just fine so I suspect the sparc package. Anyway, here is the emerge output in case anyone is interested:

>>> emerge (1 of 3) media-libs/gst-plugins-0.6.2-r1 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) gst-plugins-0.6.2.tar.bz2

>>> Source unpacked.
--------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY

LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-gst-plugins-0.6.2-r1-8083.log"

symlink: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/base.pm

I have to admit, I don't really understand the message. base.pm is not a symlink.
Ideas anyone?

could you post the log file?

/tmp/sandbox-gst-plugins-0.6.2-r1-8083.log

I am talking off my ass, but seems like the patch is trying to make a symlink and accessing something outside its sandbox -- packages being emerged are not supposed to write outside of their build directory in /var/tmp/portage

Believe it or not, all the log file contains is:

symlink: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/base.pm

Helpful, huh?

Since my first post, I attempted to emerge firebird and it did the same thing with ORBit.

Anyway, here's the info output.

Looks like this might be related to automake. You can try re-emerging it and see if that helps.

Do you know if you recently updated automake or perl?

Yeah, automake got updated on Aug21. I re-emerged perl earlier today to see if that would help but to no avail. I'm re-emerging automake right now. We'll see where that gets us.

The automake remerge didn't help. Any other ideas?

Weeve, check bug Bug #27225. I got the same error with another package (Abiword). Seems not to be an Abiword problem...

I took a look at that bug report and decided to try the SANDBOX_DISABLED="1" thing and it did the job. It fixed the problem for ORBit too. Question now is: what kind of future grief can I expect as a result of this?

I've got the same problem with gst-plugins 0.6.3. If it's any help, I installed from GRP (Pentium 3, 20030911) and am doing my first "emerge -u world" after installing GNOME from the binary packages. My use flags:

Code:
USE="alsa bonobo cdr doc dvd emacs ethereal firebird gnomedb gphoto2 \
     gstreamer gtk2 gtkhtml junit matrox mbox mozilla snmp tetex wmf \
     xinerama -arts -tcltk -esd -qt"

My output log looks like this:

Code:
ratchet root # cat /tmp/sandbox-gst-plugins-0.6.3-8871.log
open_wr:   /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/.testing.writeability
unlink:    /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/.testing.writeability
open_wr:   /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/schemas/system/gstreamer/default/%gconf.xml.tmp
open_wr:   /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/system/gstreamer/default/%gconf.xml.tmp

I became root with "sudo su -". Other stuff emerges okay.
