|
|
I'm not sure to what forum my question fits best, thus feel free to move it to the right place.
It's about the Qt- version of Nethack:
I like the option to choose one of several stored games from the GUI instead of using the -u option, but the names are always cut to 5 letters here (for instance 'Rubinstein' changes to 'Rubin').
Is this a bug or maybe a config fault by myself?
I'm using OPTIONS=name:player in my .nethackrc |

Good question, though it's more related to NetHack than Qt, so moving to gaming forum. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Some good news: I've got the answer now!
Warwick Allison (answered by mail) wrote: | Yes, this will be fixed in the next release. The problem is in the nethack
main engine code - it thinks SYSV (include Linux) can only do 8.3 filenames
(!). If you want to fix it yourself, look for the "regularize()" function.
But the next release is only weeks away. |

I have another similar question. What's with the Qt version requirements? It depends on Qt2. Is there some reason why it depends on an old version of Qt? does it not compile or something with Qt3? I am going to start playing with it soon to see what I can do, but if someone has some insight, please post. |

after reading through the ebuild, I figured out that it won't compile against Qt3.. whoops.
anyway, is there a way, after installing it with Qt support to just start the regular game without the Qt? I want to be able to play over ssh for example |

That's right. But you can have both Qt-versions on your system (as I do): They don't conflict.

Of course you can! Just edit your $/.nethackrc: OPTIONS=windowtype:tty (if you want the classic style) or, depending on your 'USE'-options during compile time: x11, qt, gnome. But tty should be always possible as far as I know. |
