Questi me li ricordo, anche senza il mio pc: 1Gb di ram, 512Mb di spazio swap.

[EDIT]: per quanto riguarda il resto, abbiamo:

  • gentoo sources 2.6.22-r7
  • niente di rilevante in /etc/sysctl.conf

la versione esatta di wxGTK che stai installando
p.s.: riportami ugualmente il contenuto di /etc/sysctl, non si sà mai; e quando avrai di nuovo sotto mano il pc, mi serve l'output completo di /proc/meminfo per delle verifiche.

ho fatto un po di test, innanzitutto per la versione 2.6.4* di wxGTK sono necessati come minimo ~2.5Gb di spazio, quindi il tuo 1.4Gb di RAM+SWAP non è sufficiente; non sono riuscito a riprodurre il tuo problema in nessun modo (anche forzando valori di RAM e SWAP identici ai tuoi), per cui ipotizzo che il freeze sia dovuto al fatto che mentre compilavi hai impegnato il PC con altri software, motivo per cui sto migliorando il tool al fine di evitare questo tipo di situazioni.

Ottimo. Felice di esserti stato di aiuto e se ti servo per altri test o vuoi altri dati chiedi pure.
A dire la verità, ora non ricordo cosa avevo aperto in quel momento, sarò sincero, ma solitamente quando compilo faccio "cose leggere" proprio per non inginocchiare il sistema (o sclerare per la sua poca reattività). Pensavo, ma smentiscimi se hai argomentazioni, a qualche configurazione azzardata nel kernel o particolarmente mal digerita dal programma, se questo può in qualche modo influire. Te lo chiedo perché conosci il tuo software e mi sai dire al volo se la cosa è plausibile.
Non so, se posso darti un consiglio o qualche suggerimento da utente (a cui puoi anche rispondere "non è possibile"), dovrebbe esserci un controllo a priori sulal possibilità o meno di farcela e quindi una decisione se passare in modalità compilazione su disco. Mi dirai, ma come può farlo a priori? Vero, mi rendo conto che la cosa non è possibile ... E accorgersi durante che la memoria non basta, quindi fermarsi e passare su disco?
Boh ... Sono solo idee, come detto, feedback a cui dare il peso che meritano ...

ciao, per ora esiste solo app-portage/bashrcng-shmfs (ed è completo e funzionante); per gli altri, segui gli updates che verranno notificati sul forum GeCHI nelle apposite sezioni (quando i vari plugin saranno completi o quanto meno usabili, verranno notificati anche su questo forum).

Una domanda: solo a me non vengono smontate le directory di compilazione? Vedo un "rmdir: /var/tmp/portage/pacchetto: Dispositivo o risorsa occupata" a fine emerge ... ho il sospetto che non mi venga chiamato l'hook giusto. Mi pare che non venga invocata da emerge la fase clean... :S

non dipende da bashrcng, ma dal pacchetto 'portage' il quale non esporta (almeno per il momento) l'ebuild phase 'clean'.
purtroppo non posso farci nulla, l'unica è andare a scomodare il devel @zmedico e chiedergli di sistemare la cosa.

Sì ho notato anche io (ho messo delle print dentro bashrc). Secondo te come è meglio muoverci? segnaliamo il bug?

qualcuno mi indica l'ultima versione di portage che funziona? facendo un diff magari becco il problema.

Con il mio fantastico inglese ho aperto un bug: ebuild [pack] clean doesn't perform the custom bashrc call.

l'ultima stabile su x86, da me funziona. oltre non so.


Analizzando il codice di ebuild.sh dalla riga 1605 (2.1.4) sembra che di proposito non venga caricato il bashrc quando la fase è "clean"... why? quale riflessione sui massimi sistemi a portato a questa scelta?

Comunque modificherei l'ebuild di bashrcng-shmfs per esplicitare l'incompatibilità con portage 2.1.4.

EDIT.: sul bug ha risposto uno sviluppatore con la patch (onestamente non l'ho postata io perché pensavo fosse una decisione prese e non un bug). suppongo che al prossimo giro dovrebbe tornare tutto ok.

ho appena scaricato l'ebuild da http://portage-bashrc.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/portage-bashrc/portage-bashrc-ng/portage-bashrc-ng-0.13_beta.ebuild.

Solo che non funge troppo corettamente, infatti mi devo smontare la /var/tmp/* da solo.

il primo post di questo thread riporta: per l'installazione e configurazione del tool consultate il sito del progetto GeCHI Overlay, che ospita il tool portage-bashrc-ng e ne mantiene lo sviluppo.

Molto probabilmente non funziona perchè l'ebuild di quel repository è sbagliato. usa il GeCHI Overlay che contiene ebuild/versioni aggiornate.
p.s.: il tool portage-bashrc-ng è deprecato da 2 anni oramai, se puoi utilizza il pacchetto app-portage/bashrcng e i relativi plugin (è sempre sul GeCHI Overlay), i quali sostituiscono in toto il vecchio portage-bashrc-ng:

sei sicuro al 100% che il percorso /var/tmp/portage/*/* non sia locked da qualche console ancora attiva che punta a quel path?

passando (finalmente) al nuovo bashrcng, mi ha "infastidito" un tantino la nomenclatura imposta alle patch:

in questo modo la denominazione del vecchio bashrc-ng non funziona più:

immagino ti stia riferendo a me (anche se non è ben chiaro dal tuo post) e per quanto riguarda le "patch" e le "bulk patch¹", ho solo fatto riferimento a quello che è stato stabilito dai devel gentoo per tale differenziazione; non mi sono inventato nulla se è questo che stai insinuando e c'è un buon motivo perchè ho usato tale standard.

¹ - le patch create per bashrcng-patching vanno considerate come "bulk patch" perchè non sono patch standard per il tree di portage e nella prossima versione del tool, lo standard sulla nomenclatura "bulk" verrà usato con maggiore accuratezza.
