I can't believe that I'm the only one having problems getting basic libraries emerged...
I made it up to stage 3 with not a single problem - I eat fdisk for breakfast, and all that stuff.
However, I have since then been trying to get either KDE or gnome up and running without much luck.
1. First, libxml2 refused to compile. After I installed cups ad gimp-print-cups, it worked. Ok, fine.
2. Now libxslt will not compile. The Makefile trie to move a file it already moved ( libxslt.lo ), and of course, it fails. If I go to the work directory for libxslt and "make all-recursive", it finishes up fine. However, portage still thinks it's uninstalled, and if I emerge libxslt again, it writes over the already built files in the work directory and predictably gets the same error message again. Is there any way to prevent emerge from deleting/overwriting the work directory, or is there someway to tell portage that I've installed the library now?
3. Tried emerging openoffice ( not the bin ) as I left the office yesterday ( I have X, blackbox and mozilla working fine ), and after downloading the source tarballs and verifying their md5 checksums, a red asterisk appears and the whole process stops dead in its tracks.
I'm using gcc-2.95 to avoid 3.0+ wierdness. I have a fairly tames CFLAGS = "-mcpu=686 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops", but I have tried recompiling with the last two options removed - no changes.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Alan |

man emerge. Look for the inject option.

Not sure what the exact problem is, but there are still lots and lots of open bugs filed against OpenOffice (both binary and source) so it doesn't surprise me that you're having problems. Might look through the bugs and see if there are any suggestions on how to fix the problem you're having.

Thanks - will do. I'm also looking at the ebuild command, as it seems to be the incremental steps which emerge rolls up into one command.
Actually, I just finished using ebuild to get the job done. I did "ebuild paclage.name compile", then install, then qmerge. Looks good so far.

Ahh - ok. I'll try to get the basic system up and running before trying to tackly openoffice!
Thanks again,
