Hi
I got Problems with my xmms, running on kde 3.0.2. I don't have alsa. Sound in kde works fine on startup and some other apps like mplayer.

when i start xmms, i get my gui and i can load that files i want. I can scroll in my playlist. If i click play, xmms freezes. Also when i do a doubleclick to a title in the playlist. The only way to end xmms is killing it.

What can i do?

I remember this happening to me when xmms wasn't configured correctly - what output plugin are you using? when you emerged xmms, did you have the correct use flags set?

It sounds similar to a problem I encountered a while back on my FBSD box. I discovered that the KDE sound daemon (artsd I believe it's called) was using the soundcard. When I pressed play, xmms would give an error (if you started it from a konsole ;) mentioning the sound device to be busy and then it would freeze. I solved the problem by using the xmms-arts output plugin. This way, xmms will use the arts daemon and get the sound card. So, try to emerge media-sound/xmms-arts and select it as output. It solved the problem for me, I hope it does for you!

Good luck and let us know the results,
Rhialto

Dic, Arts comes with a program called "artsdsp" which sits on the DSP device and pipes everything sent to it through arts.

The only problem with this is the slight buffering delay that artsd has, you can mess around with your settings to try and fix that.
