Posted: Wed Dec 19, 2007 4:55 pm Post subject: [Solved] Intel 855GM & no DRI.... |
|
|
I cannot get DRI working on my Sony B100B laptop that has an Intel 855GM graphics card. I have tried using the DRM in the kernel, out of the kernel, using the built-in drivers, etc. but I get no direct rendering reported by glxinfo. Here are my dmesg, xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, emerge --info, and current .config. Any ideas what I need to do to get this working? I had started with the walkthough on the Gentoo Wiki, and then I tried some ideas on forum posts from various distros, including Gentoo and Ubuntu. Let me know what I need to do.
Thanks!

|
| I tried a working xorg.conf from someone with the same model of computer, and got the same problems. I'm going to try emerging an older i810 driver to see how that works. Is it at all likely the resolution is set too low? I know the screen supports 1400x1050 optimally, but I haven't gotten it up to that yet. |

| Any luck here? I'm also trying to get dri to work with a 855Gm in a x40 since months now. First I tried with the 2.6.22-r8 and now with the 2.6.23-r3 too. No luck. I tried everything you did. So if there is anything new to you, please tell me! |

|
|
| Got it to work at the last minute before I had to leave on vacation, so sorry I forgot to update... What worked for me was slowly and painstakingly getting things back to 'normal' to get things back to a vanilla state. Then, I SLOWLY went through the wiki guide, and found I had missed a couple of kernel options. Setting those options allows the direct rendering to work. I'm not very impressed though- I don't think it's much of an improvement over software rendering for most applications. Post back if you have further trouble... |

xinerama does not work with DRI . Try to disable it explicitely.
Find the EE lines:
| Quote: | | (EE) intel(0): Could not initialize the DRM memory manager. |
may be linked with DRI ...
| Quote: | | (EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable |
is even more explicit !
Please, PLEASE, search yourself for errors, and, read what you paste: your answer is in your question ! _________________ DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre (aka DoubleHP ) http://www.demaine.info/

the post is hard to read with all that dmesg stuff could probably remove it or use a tool like grep to post relvalant data. I did not notice the | dspahn wrote: | | (II) Initializing built-in extension XINERAMA |
I thought the xinirama use flag would not be a problem just enable that feature in other programs.
I was aware it was not compatable with the double buffer feature built in to i810.
wait he doesnt have the xinirama flag set!
It doesnt even look like there is a video card set in make.conf
Are the drivers enabeled in the kernel of compiled as modular?
what about
| Code: | grep 'I810' .config && grep 'I915' .config && grep 'AGP' .config
| or there is a better way to do multipal greps but something like that. _________________ Do you still use Perl? |

I did not say xinerama is set; I said it can be a problem.
there is a clear (EE) that could cause crash ... I told about it.
It's hard to read because he does not use Quote or code listings ...
Yes, emerge --info or /etc/make.conf would help
Some emerge -vp x11-*/* would also help a bit _________________ DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre (aka DoubleHP ) http://www.demaine.info/

well as he posted above he got dri working.
the xinirama stuff is part of the extmod and I am pretty sure it is not causing an error.
It would be nice to figure out exactly what modules are best for the i810, & i915 driver.
It shows the doubble buffer module loading so I was wondering if dspahn has tried the big wide screen set up.
perhaps I will set a -xinirama use flag and give it a test for fun. _________________ Do you still use Perl? |
