|
|
From the server mailing list. I don't know if Ryan is an Epic employee (his email address wasn't):
Thanks for your patience, everyone.
The Linux server is now available for download. It is built from the 1.1
patch, and is network compatible with all retail UT3 clients.
We feel pretty good about this build, but it should be considered beta
for now, as it hasn't had the full wrath of the Internet applied to it
yet.
Grab it from here:
Arizona mirror (GoDaddy):
http://treefort.icculus.org/ut3/UT3-...r-12172007.bin
California mirror (Dreamhost):
http://0day.icculus.org/ut3/UT3-linu...r-12172007.bin
size:
1744621651 bytes
md5sum:
70149f802efc087455a87f92c1485982 UT3-linux-server-12172007.bin
As the download is 1.6 gigabytes, I assume that everyone is going to
saturate those servers...I can upload individual copies to those that
will mirror with high bandwidth from my Chicago-based server (please
email me off-list), and encourage others to post mirrors here, too.
Comments and bug reports can go to this mailing list for now; we'll move
to Bugzilla if need be, later.
To install: set the download to be executable and run it; it will show
the license text and then unpack itself.
Have fun!
--ryan.
Maybe we will see Linux client install soon? |

Thanks for that news-flash!
I am still waiting for the Linux-Client. But this release make me feeling that the Client-Version will came out this year ;)
Because it looks like they found a way to fix these L-issues. And i hope that they haven't to re-write large structure's of code. Or something else.
This release show's that there is a way. In my bad dreams i thought there will never be (or in 12 month) a Client-Version. Because the L-issues are maybe unsolvable. |

galandilia, you know that this is not the Client to play the game with linux, it is just to set up your own Server?
Check out this page for more Information: http://icculus.org/news/news.php?id=4104
There are many broken Links but the binary is still available on the Server http://mpc.pagehosting4u.com/UT3-linux-server-12172007.bin.
Check out this too: http://icculus.org/news/news.php?id=4387 it is a patch from the first Version of the server too a newer one. And i suppose you have do update to use it witch patched windows-Clients.
I suppose you are not conversant with Linux too (not only with the gentoo distribution)?
Just download this binary and made it executable with this command:
Code: | # chmod a+x UT3-linux-server-12172007.bin UT3-linux-server-02202008.bin |
Then install first the Sever....
Code: | # UT3-linux-server-12172007.bin |
and apply the patch...
Code: | # UT3-linux-server-02202008.bin |
To start and set up the Server? I don't know. Just observant the Output of the program or check the Readme File. |

I have installed server and I am now able to launch it (only thing I did after install was copying DefaultEditor.ini to Engine/Config/BaseEditor.ini), but after launch by executing this:
Code: | ./ut3-bin Server WAR-Serenity?Game=UTGameContent.UTOnslaughtGame_Content?GameMode=2?Numplay=8?MaxPlayers=32?NumPublicConnections=24?NumPrivateConnections=0?MinNetPlayers=1?TimeLimit=30?GoalScore=3?BotSkill=4?bIsDedicated=true?bUsesStats=true?ForceRespawn=0?bShouldAdvertise=true?PureServer=1?bIsLanMatch=false?bAllowJoinInProgress=true?AdminName=admin?AdminPassword=ADMINPASS -Login=GAMESPYLOGIN -Password=GAMESPYPASSWORD -Log=server.log -unattended
|
i get on output only this
Code: | Init: Version: 3808
Init: Epic Internal: 0
Init: Compiled: Apr 22 2009 04:27:51
Init: Command line: Server WAR-Serenity?Game=UTGameContent.UTOnslaughtGame_Content?GameMode=2?Numplay=8?MaxPlayers=32?NumPublicConnections=24?NumPrivateConnections=0?MinNetPlayers=1?TimeLimit=30?GoalScore=3?BotSkill=4?bIsDedicated=true?bUsesStats=true?ForceRespawn=0?bShouldAdvertise=true?PureServer=1?bIsLanMatch=false?bAllowJoinInProgress=true?AdminName=admin?AdminPassword=ADMINPASS -Login=GAMESPYLOGIN -Password=GAMESPYPASSWORD -Log=server.log -unattended./ut3-bin Server WAR-Serenity?Game=UTGameContent.UTOnslaughtGame_Content?GameMode=2?Numplay=8?MaxPlayers=32?NumPublicConnections=24?NumPrivateConnections=0?MinNetPlayers=1?TimeLimit=30?GoalScore=3?BotSkill=4?bIsDedicated=true?bUsesStats=true?ForceRespawn=0?bShouldAdvertise=true?PureServer=1?bIsLanMatch=false?bAllowJoinInProgress=true?AdminName=admin?AdminPassword=ADMINPASS -Login=GAMESPYLOGIN -Password=GAMESPYPASSWORD -Log=server.log -unattended
Init: Base directory: /usr/local/ut3-dedicated/Binaries/
Init: Character set: Unicode
|
nothing writes into server.log, moreover CPU usage increases to 100% on one core, and memory consumption raises constantly to all 4GB I have...
My configuration:
HP Proliant N36L 2 x Athlon x64 1,3 GHz, 4GB RAM, Gentoo x64
what did I wrong?
@Up - I know linux itself - but certainly I am not a gentoo expert |

I never set up an UT3 dedicated server, but it seems that you have to configure your server before you launching it. Try to google to find some howto's or try this: forums.epicgames.com Thread
or
that - thepizzy.net blog.

Thought the bin-Packages are well known, but of course with the modern way of package management they become more and more obsolete. |

yup - I was mislead by this bin package - but just after chmoding it everything was clear I have googled around but find no solution to my case - generally it should work on default settings... For sure it should not consume 100% of one core all the time - same with memory usage :/
Anyone knows how to make it work? |

Okay - it is better now - I have removed it completely and installed again following this:

great manual you have posted. Now I get:

When you set up your gentoo yourself, and don't know about Selinux, you shouldn't have it installed and you can skip this hind.
If you don't use selinux you just can skip the first step.
But i don't really know what's cause this..
Code: | Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault]
Aborting. |
A segmentation fault is an error that could occur if your hardware got broken or something missed up your program library's. Or some input went terrible wrong.. or its bad programmed its really hard to say what's cause your one.
Some things i don't know about ut3-Dedicated server are:
- Did the administrator of this Server need a Game-Spy Account? (Or have to Bind a Serial Code of a UT3 Retail-Version to this Account)
(Someone suggested that you have to create your account ingame from a Running UT3 and use that one with the dedicated Server).
- Have the Dedicated Server the same Version as the Game Client? Or could you use the above Patched Titan 2.0-Clients to Join your Dedicated Linux server or are they incompatible..?
Since the game an especially the missing linux-Client got a stepmotherly support... i have no hope that you could set up this well :/
I am sorry that i couldn't help you further :/
Anyway, Good Luck! |
