I've never had a problem with xmms before, today i go to start it and i get this error message
Quote: | <Init> : Avifile CVS-020701-15:44-2.95.3
<Init> : Available CPU flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse
<Init> : 996.84 MHz Pentium III (Coppermine) processor detected
<LDT_Keeper> : Installed fs segment: 0x4001a000

ok...so i rsync, unmerge then emerge, still the same version and same error message. i search this forum for the problem and find it has to do with alsa...but i'm not using alsa. i dont even have alsa installed. i'm using a kernel module, and its still working fine for other programs. xmms worked fine yesterday, and i haven't changed a thing since then. Whats going on here? |

if only that were true for me. if xmms started up and gave me that message...who cares. but it terminates right after that message is printed. |

Well, you've got me lost then
all i can tell you is that that message is not an error message in anyway, so its not likely to give you any insight into the problem. its wierd that you don't see anything else before it dies. Like a segfault or something... but what do I know?? Really.. not that much |

If you are using KDE you might have better luck with the arts plugin.

I have arts in my USE variables as well, but it still doesn't emerge it by default. However, an "emerge xmms-arts" will solve that problem. Then it should be available as an output plugin.
Jack
edit:// You could also run it without the arts plugin by doing a "artsdsp xmms" this will pipe the sound output to arts, which is supposed to work for any application that lacks arts support. |
