I was browsing the mailing list a second ago and I saw that there was work on a GUI installer or at least a curses-based installer. Wow - what a great idea this is. Considering that most Gentoo users pretty much follow the same steps during installation, running a script/installer which can handle some of the more inane details will be a great feature.

Bah, theres is absolutely nothing wrong with having a graphical installer, except for people complaining about not wanting to be like Mandrake or Redhat.

Newsflash. the installer is not what makes Redhat and Mandrake crappy. the installer is the nicest part of those Distro's. it's RPM Hell that makes them suck.

a graphical install is a TERRIFIC Idea as long as it is optional so that the codemonkeys can still type all those mundane commands that make them feel like they're in more control.

I Would Love to see a graphical install, not because I can't handle the manual one. i found it rather easy in fact. but its alot of reading and typing, for the most part everyone does things EXACTLY the same during an installation. so why not make it less tedious?

Has this particular dead horse not been beaten to everyone's satisfaction?

As a matter of fact, it has. No need to re-hash it here.

Locking thread.
