hi folks.

im thinking about trying out Gnome2, "as seen on" gnome.org.

it happens they have finished it, do they not?
is the portage filled in with the release?
am i expected to gain this release by emerging gnome now?

Yes, it is finfished, and yes, u can get it by emerging gnome.

The good news is, if you don't like Gnome, emerging Windowmaker is much faster :D

well i knew.
and already emerged windowmaker :)

i already tried gnome 2 when still unfinished and dislike it.
i hope it doesnt disappoint me...

thinking about giving it to my girlfriend, who is lost with wmaker or blackboxlike... :(

its a 2.0 release, and it has quite a couple of bugs. nevetheless i'm using it now :)

There will be a 2.0.1 release about next month or so, which should fix the most critical bugs (file assosiations, etc)

Not to start a flamewar, but I would suggest KDE3. It's most like Windows, and (at least for newbies like my brother) much easier to start with.

i imagined.
im kind of disappointed the limited configurability...
(ie: cannot avoid show win content while moving..., still cannot pass custom params to X in gdm.conf)

will wait. hope it doesnt mess up all the libraries and stuff.
